If you have just got a Grade 3 and you need a 4 in the November exams, this course is for you.
On the Edexcel Foundation paper last summer, a Grade 3 started at 105 marks and a Grade 4 started at 144. That means the whole of Grade 3, from the very bottom of it to the very top, is 39 marks out of 240, spread across three papers. Even if you were right at the bottom of that band, you are thirteen marks a paper away from a 4. There's a good chance you were a handful of marks away and here is how to get over the line.
Thirteen marks a paper is three or four topics and that is absolutely doable.
During these six weeks, you will be guided through the essential topics and given new skills that you need to bridge the gap between a Grade 3 and a Grade 4.
What it is
Twelve live group sessions with me over six weeks, Wednesday and Thursday from 5pm to 6pm.
To be completely clear about this, because I would rather you knew before you paid than after: these are group sessions, not one to one. You will be in there with the rest of the cohort, all of them working towards the same November exam and the same Grade 4. I teach it live, so you can ask me anything as we go, and I have taught in classrooms for over twenty years so a group is where I do my best work. If what you want is one to one, message me instead and we will talk about that separately.
These are taught sessions. I work through the topics that carry the marks, with worked examples on screen, the same way I would teach them in a classroom. You do not need to speak, turn a camera on, or necessarily interact if you don't want to. You turn up, you follow it, and then you go and practise what you have just seen while it is still fresh using my Bow Tie Maths platform.
Before we start, you are more than welcome to send me your exam papers from the summer if you wish, and I will go through them properly. Your script tells me exactly where the marks went, which is far better information than a grade on its own, and I will use it to build you a plan for the six weeks. It costs you nothing and it is the fastest way for me to work out what you personally need.
Between sessions you do some questions tailored to every exam board and you get new numbers every single time, so you cannot memorise your way through it. I can see what you have been practising and how you got on, which means I come to each session already knowing what you need help with.

The Grade 4 Promise
Here is the part I want you to read carefully.
If you got a Grade 3 at your last sitting, do the work I set you, and sit the exam in November, you will get your Grade 4. If you do not, you choose what happens next: a full refund, or a free place on my next course until you pass.
I can make that promise because I have been teaching for over twenty years and I have a 100% pass rate with my own online students, and because the gap between a 3 and a 4 is genuinely closeable in six weeks when the practice is targeted properly.
What "do the work" means, in full, so there are no surprises:
- Purchase the CASIO FX-991CW calculator (if you haven't got one already). It will almost certainly get you an extra grade if you know how to use it and I will show you how in the sessions.
- Attend all 12 live sessions. Every session is recorded and you can go back over any of them whenever you like, but the guarantee only applies if you are there live for all twelve.
- Hit your weekly practice target on the app, which works out at around ten questions a day. I will email you your own number every Sunday, so you always know where you stand.
- Sit the exam in November, do your best, and send me your result when it comes out.
Those conditions exist for one reason, which is that they are the things that actually make the difference. I cannot promise a result to somebody who does not turn up and does not practise, and I would not trust anybody who did.
Who this is for
This is for you if you got a Grade 3 in your GCSE maths, you need the 4 for a course, a job, an apprenticeship or your own peace of mind, and you are willing to give it two hours a week and ten questions a day for six weeks.
It works just as well whether you are seventeen and resitting at college, or you are thirty seven and going back for the pass you need for a career change. I have taught both this year. The maths is the same and so are the difficulties that you might be facing.

Dates and price
£250 for the full six weeks.
Sessions run Wednesday and Thursday, 5pm to 6pm UK time, from Wednesday 9 September to Thursday 15 October. The November exam sits just after we finish, so you will have some time to do some past papers to get back into the swing of things.
That works out at around £21 a session for live teaching from a tutor who has spent over twenty years doing this, which is a good deal less than an hour of private tuition, and you get the app on top of it plus the money back guarantee.
It is also worth thinking about what the other option costs you. Another year of resits means another year of sitting in a maths class you have already sat in, and for a lot of people it means a course they cannot start, an apprenticeship that goes to somebody else, or a job application that stops at the first line. Six weeks now is the cheaper way through.

Is this one to one?
No, these are group sessions. You will be in there with the rest of the cohort, all working towards the same November exam. Can you look at my exam papers before we start?
Yes, and it is entirely up to you whether you do. If you would like me to, send them over and I will go through them properly. Your script shows me exactly where the marks went, which tells me far more than a grade does, and I will use it to build you a plan for the six weeks. It costs you nothing.
I am not sure which exam board I am on.

I have not done any maths since the exam.
That is normal but we will build you back properly from the foundations up, and those foundations are what could be holding you back.
What if I cannot make a session?
The recording goes up afterwards so you can catch up on what you missed, and the most important thing is that you keep practising and get that 4 on results day. Be aware though that the guarantee asks you to be there live for all twelve, so if you already know there are dates you cannot make, send me a message before you enter and we will talk it through.
I got a Grade 2 or below.
You are very welcome on the course and you will get a lot out of it, but I will be straight with you: I cannot promise a 4 in six weeks from there, so the guarantee does not apply to you. Send me a message if you have any questions about this. I have had students who have gone from a 1 to a 4, I just cannot guarantee it will happen.
I sat Higher, not Foundation.
Then the gap is smaller still. On Higher last summer a Grade 3 started at 36 marks and a 4 started at 53, so the whole band is 17 marks. Whether you stay on Higher or move to Foundation for the resit is a conversation worth having, and I am happy to have it with you before you enter.
Boundary figures quoted above are Pearson published grade boundaries, Edexcel GCSE (9-1) 1MA1, June 2025. June 2024 was 103 and 142 on Foundation, 26 and 42 on Higher, so the 39 mark and 17 mark band widths hold across both years.
